SUMMARY:
The Edgewater Police Department is requesting City Council approval to submit a competitive grant application to the Florida Inland Navigation District (FIND) Waterways Assistance Program for the purchase and installation of search and rescue equipment and advanced marine electronics for the Department’s newly acquired law enforcement vessel.
The vessel, a 23-foot Life Proof patrol boat, was previously purchased with 50% matching funds from the FIND Waterways Assistance Program. The proposed grant application represents the next phase of that project and will allow the Department to fully equip the vessel with state-of-the-art night vision technology, search and rescue systems, and mission-critical electronics necessary to support modern maritime law enforcement and emergency response operations.
The total cost of the proposed equipment package is $100,391.32. If awarded, the FIND grant would reimburse up to 50% of eligible project costs. The City’s required match would be funded through a combination of Police Impact Fees and Law Enforcement Trust Fund (LETF) monies, with no impact to the City’s General Fund.
Approval of this Resolution is a required component of the FIND application process and authorizes the Police Department to formally participate in the competitive grant cycle.

RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Staff recommends approval of the Resolution authorizing the Edgewater Police Department to participate in the Florida Inland Navigation District (FIND) Waterways Assistance Program grant process for the purchase and upfitting of search and rescue equipment and marine electronics for the Department’s law enforcement vessel.
