Receipt of Land Donation from 110 Pearl Street

body

DEPARTMENT:

Environmental Services

SUMMARY:

The City of Edgewater maintains the G-2 Canal which lies midway between US-1 and the FEC railroad tracks in the northeastern portion of the City. In the early 1960’s, the City of Edgewater obtained utility easements along most of the G-2 Canal to install a gravity main for the new sanitary sewer system. Both of these systems transect the property at 110 Pearl Street owned by Robert and Dorothy Sanders.

The Environmental Services Department staff had discussions with Mr. Sanders to obtain a drainage easement over the width of the G-2 Canal through his property along with a maintenance path along the top of bank. Simultaneously, Mr. Sanders sought and received approval to split his 4.2-acre property into two (2) 2-acre parcels. Following the lot split, Mr. Sanders has offered to donate to the City a parcel of approximately 0.14 acres in size proceeding west from the centerline of the canal, as well provide a 10-foot easement east of the centerline of the canal. These would allow the City to have access to this portion of the stormwater drainage canal and sewer system for maintenance.

City staff have offered to pay for the title work and closing costs to complete this donation. Sufficient funds are available in the Stormwater utility to cover the expected costs.
