SUMMARY:
The City of Edgewater Fleet Maintenance Division is requesting to apply for the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) Diesel Emission Mitigation Program (DEMP) grant. This grant prioritizes projects in communities actively engaged in disaster recovery and resiliency planning, as well as those that have experienced significant economic, environmental, and operational impacts from severe weather events in recent years. The City meets the requirements of this grant and would benefit from reducing diesel-related emissions by replacing older diesel vehicles with new models that meet higher emission standards.
If awarded, the FDEP DEMP grant would allow the City to replace diesel vehicles manufactured before 2009. Fleet Maintenance has identified three (3) Class 4-7 trucks that qualify for replacement under the grant. Each unit replaced must be permanently disabled by boring a 3-inch hole through the engine block and completely cutting the frame rails in half.
Vehicles selected to be replaced:
• F750 Dump Truck assigned to Stormwater
• Bucket truck currently assigned to Parks & Recreation
• F550 with dump bed assigned to Field Operations
The FDEP DEMP grant will provide $412,313.00 for the replacement of the three Class 4-7 trucks, with no matching funds required from the City of Edgewater.
