SUMMARY:
Obtain approval for the purchase of a replacement rotating assembly for the Wastewater Treatment Plant centrifuge from Alfa Laval, Inc.
BACKGROUND:
The Wastewater Treatment Plant centrifuge was inspection by an OEM-certified service technician and determined the centrifuge rotating assembly is significantly worn and needs replacing to sure continued reliable operation of the biosolids dewatering process.
Alfa Laval, Inc. is the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) of the ALDEC G2-45 centrifuge, including the rotating assembly and gearbox. Alfa Laval is the sole source provider for OEM replacement parts and specialized service for this equipment. The technology incorporated into the centrifuge and its components is proprietary and, in many cases, patented. Replacement parts are specifically designed and manufactured for the ALDEC G2-45 centrifuge and its intended application; therefore, no other manufacturer can legally produce or supply equivalent OEM components.

RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Staff recommends approval of the purchase of one (1) complete replacement rotating assembly from Alfa Laval, Inc. for the Wastewater Treatment Plant centrifuge and authorization for the City Manager to execute any necessary documents related to the purchase.
