                     COUNCIL AGENDA ITEM

SUBJECT:

Request to Utilize Police Impact Fees for Purchase of (8) Law Enforcement Radios.

DEPARTMENT:

Police

SUMMARY:

The Edgewater Police Department is requesting approval of a budget amendment to utilize police impact fees, in an amount not to exceed $64,856.24, for the purchase of eight (8) Harris XL-185 P portable radios. These radios are required to fully equip eight recently hired police officers whose positions were added to address population growth and increased service demand.

The City relies on Volusia County’s radio communications system, which is transitioning to a digital platform requiring enhanced encryption, interoperability, and system-specific features. Existing legacy radios no longer meet County standards or operational requirements. The requested radios are mission-critical capital equipment necessary for officer safety, dispatch communications, interagency coordination, and emergency response.
