COUNCIL AGENDA ITEM
SUBJECT:
title
FL Dept of Environmental Protection (FDEP) Diesel Emission Mitigation Program (DEMP) Grant
body
DEPARTMENT:
Public Works
SUMMARY:
FDEP prioritizes projects in communities actively engaged in disaster recovery and resiliency planning, as well as those that have experienced significant economic environmental, and operational impacts from severe weather events in recent years. The City meets this criteria and would also benefit from the grant’s potential to significantly reduce diesel-related emissions, improving environmental quality and long-term community resilience. In addition, by offsetting the cost of necessary equipment upgrades, the DEMP grant would generate meaningful budget savings for the City, freeing local funds for other critical infrastructure and community needs.
The FDEP DEMP Grant purpose is to support the purchase of three (3) new Class 4-7 trucks powered by diesel compressed natural gas (CNG), to replace Class 4-7 trucks of engine model year 2009 or older. The City Public Works Department will be replacing three (3) Class 4-7 trucks. Each unit replaced must then be scrapped by boring a 3” hole through the engine block and the frame rails must be cut completely in half.
The FDEP DEMP Grant will provide $412,313.00 for the replacement of three (3) Class 4-7 trucks.
