COUNCIL AGENDA ITEM
SUBJECT:
title
Approval to Contract with Enviro-Tech of America, Inc. for Fats, Oils & Grease (FOG) Treatment within the Wastewater Collection System and Wastewater Treatment Plant
body
DEPARTMENT:
Environmental Services
SUMMARY:
Within the wastewater system, fats, oils and grease (FOG) in great quantities create a treatment problem within the lift stations and treatment plant by clogging pumps, interfering with the physical and chemical processes and causing additional sludge disposal costs. Since 2016, the City has used the proprietary products manufactured by Enviro-Tech of America Inc. to control the accumulation of FOG within the collection system and thus reduce the negative effects thereof. The contract pricing is based on a competitive bid awarded by the City of Naples, which has been renewed through 9/30/2020. The City of Edgewater has budgeted a total of $60,000 to purchase chemical and services related to FOG Control.
The no-action alternative would result in costs to the City related to the physical removal, hauling and disposal of FOG, operational downtime and obstructions, increased man-hour requirements, increased unpleasant odor, heightened potential for sewage overflows, and resulting negative public response.
