Lastly, the easement allows the City to reshape the canals banks to reduce erosion thus thereby reducing maintenance.

BACKGROUND:

The Sunset Key subdivision first spurred City staff interest in the Gabordy Canal. The Sunset Key subdivision is a three lot rural estate subdivision behind Tatum Road adjacent to the Gabordy Canal. City staff have acquired as a part of the Development, a 50 foot drainage easement along the Gabordy Canal. City staff then proceeded to contact Daytona State College regarding an easement. Daytona State College agreed to provide a drainage easement and said agreement is before the City Council tonight.

BENEFITED PARTIES:

County and City Residents along Old Mission Road, Elizabeth Street, James Street, Pearl Street, Edgewater Canal Road, Tatum Boulevard, Roberta Lane, Massey Road, E Gateway Drive, Oakleaf Preserve, Daytona State College.

FUTURE EFFORTS:

Secure an additional 50 foot drainage easement from Space Coast Industrial Development to create a 50 foot wide by 2,935 linear foot stormwater easement along the Gabordy Canal.
