SUMMARY:
The City of Edgewater was selected to receive funds related to the Hart Avenue Drainage Improvements Project from the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity (DEO) grant program known as “CDBG-DR Rebuild Florida Infrastructure”. This program requires adherence to various criteria associated with the State’s funding source, which is the federal Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program. On the advice of Fred Fox Enterprises Inc., a grant-management firm who assisted the City in compiling the application for the Hart Avenue project grant, six resolutions and one ordinance are submitted for the Council’s approval in order to position the City to be eligible to receive the CDBG funds and be in compliance with the federal HUD goals and requirements.
The Fair Housing Code Ordinance creates a new subdivision of the City’s Code of Ordinances which prohibits discrimination in housing on the basis of race, color, ancestry, national origin, religion, sex, marital status, familial status, handicap or age by designating as unlawful certain discriminatory practices in the sale or rental of housing, as well as in advertising in connection therewith, in the financing of housing, and in brokerage services. The Code allows certain exceptions. This Code requires an administrator to be designated by the City and prescribes the powers and duties of such administrator, makes provisions for the filing of complaints and responses thereto, including penalties for violation of this code.
During the April 4th Council Meeting, this item was continued to a date and time certain on May 4, 2020. During the May 4th Council Meeting, Council approved at first reading.
