body
DEPARTMENT:
Development Services
SUMMARY:
The Development Services Division is comprised of the Planning Department and Building Department. The Development Services Director has hired several new staff members within the last year to accommodate the influx of building permits and planning related items. The planning department has hired the following staff: Senior Planner, Development Review Engineer, and Junior Planner. The department consists of five staff members. The Development Services Director has hired one Combination Building Inspector, one Building Official, and two Permit Technicians. In the upcoming budget, the Development Services Director has requested to add back in a Combination Building Inspector. The Building Department currently has seven members on staff. Together, the Development Services Department has twelve staff members. The current location at City Hall does not accommodate the current staff and does not accommodate for expansion. The current Planning and Building Department office space at City Hall is less than 1,300 square feet including the lobby for the public. Currently, the Code Enforcement Department operates within the Fire Department under the Fire Chief. The Code Enforcement Officers work closely with the Building Department and Planning Department. To increase efficiency, Development Services will absorb the Code Enforcement Department. The Code Enforcement Department has six staff members, a Code Enforcement Manager, three Code Enforcement Offices, one Administrative Assistant, and one Animal Control Officer.
The requested new office space at 2140 S Riverside Drive will be located in Suites 26 through 30 and is 3,650 square feet. The lease duration is ten years. The total cost to renovate the building is $74,000. This cost represents the demolition of existing rooms within Suites 26 through 30, the construction of new offices, new flooring, lighting, and adjustment of the HVAC system. The Parks and Recreation Department will pull the necessary building permits which will be reviewed by the Building Official. The new office space will allow a member of the Public to have immediate access through a shared waiting room to the Planning Department, Building Department, and Code Enforcement Department. The new space is also planned to have a conference room to facilitate meetings as the current City Hall only has one conference room. In addition, each Department will have staff members readily available to assist members of the public.
