COUNCIL AGENDA ITEM
SUBJECT:
title
Interlocal Agreement with Volusia County for Provision of Municipal Services
body
DEPARTMENT:
Public Works
SUMMARY:
The City of Edgewater maintains a municipal services agreement with Volusia County that is scheduled to expire on September 30, 2025. This agreement establishes a framework whereby the City may request assistance from the County to provide services that require specialized equipment or personnel resources beyond the City's current capabilities. The agreement encompasses several essential service areas, including traffic light maintenance, traffic counts and studies, road paving operations, and emergency response services from the Department of Public Works during federally declared disasters.
The City is pursuing renewal of this agreement for a three-year term to maintain continuity of these cooperative services. This renewal will align Edgewater's agreement with similar inter-municipal agreements that the County has established with other cities throughout the region, ensuring consistency in service delivery standards and operational procedures. Such mutual aid agreements provide municipalities with access to specialized resources and expertise while maintaining cost-effective service delivery without requiring significant capital investments in equipment or additional staffing.
