COUNCIL AGENDA ITEM
SUBJECT:
title
2nd Public Hearing-FFY 23/24 Florida Small Cities Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program
body
DEPARTMENT:
City Manager
SUMMARY:
The City was previously under an “umbrella” CDBG (Community Development Block Grant) with Volusia County. This ended in December 2021, which now enables the City to apply for this grant as a stand-alone applicant and greatly increase our funding opportunity from less than $100,000.00 under the “umbrella” with Volusia County to $1,428,000.00. The 2nd Public Hearing will advise the public of the City’s prospective CDBG application. The City’s application includes: Replacement of approximately 3,015 LF of galvanized steel water main along Hubbell Street, Plaza Lane, East Yelkca Terrace and Dixwood Avenue; and Replacement of approximately 20 air release valves (ARV) on sanitary force mains throughout the City that have reached the end of their design life, thereby mitigating the existing risk of systemwide outages in the event of an ARV failure. Both activities constitute a single service area comprised of all households connected to City utilities. Additionally, $50,000 has been budgeted through local funds to be used for construction activities.
The first public hearing was held on March 17, 2024.
A Fair Housing Workshop will be conducted immediately following the public hearing for the public, property owners, housing professionals and local officials to receive information and training materials covering local, state, and federal Fair Housing laws.
