SUMMARY:

City staff received eight applications for consideration for the Local School Scholarship Program. The Scholarship fund this year has approximately $9,000. Typically, $1,000 is reserved for the fundraising events held throughout the year for the scholarship fund. Six students from New Smyrna Beach High School and two students are from Burns Science and Technology Charter School applied. The Economic Development Board met on March 25th, 2025 and determined that they would like to award each student $1,000, for a total allocation of $8,000 from the Scholarship fund.

 

City staff would request that one to two board members commit to volunteer attending one of the award ceremonies. New Smyrna Beach High School will be celebrating Honors Night on May 15th at 6pm. Burns Science and Technology Charter School will have their award and scholarship night on May 21st at 6pm.

 

RECOMMENDED ACTION:

Motion to award each of the 8 applicants $1,000 each to be used towards their educational pursuits.
