Requesting Approval for Proposal from Halff Engineering for Engineering, Design and Permitting to Replace the Menard May Park Fishing Pier Damaged by a Sailboat During Hurricane Ian
body
DEPARTMENT:
Parks & Recreation
SUMMARY:
The fishing pier located at Menard May Park at 413 S. Riverside Drive was severely damaged when a sailboat broke free from its mooring in New Smyrna Beach, floated south, coming to rest at Menard May Park during Hurricane Ian September 29, 2022. Since the storm, City Staff in several Departments worked with FWC, FEMA and other jurisdictions for the safe removal of the sailboat that moved north during Hurricane Nicole. Additionally, City Staff has been working with FEMA for guidance and FEMA procedures to mitigate the replacement of the fishing pier using methods and materials that are more resilient to withstand future storms (i.e. concrete pilings, aluminum mesh gangway to allow water to pass through when rising, etc).
Halff Engineering has a division that specializes in marine engineering and has provided the attached proposal under the City’s Continuing Contract RFQ 19-GS-011 - Continuing Professional Engineering Services. The proposal cost is $121,509.55
Once the pier replacement is completed, City Staff will submit to FEMA for reimbursement.
